Meet the Breeder Behind Rafter Cross 7 Corgis & RC7 Cane Corsos
California Preservation Breeder
My name is Brooke Ryan, and I am the breeder and owner behind Rafter Cross 7 Corgis and RC7 Cane Corsos, a California-based dog breeding program committed to producing healthy, well-structured dogs with stable, reliable temperaments. Our program is located on a working cattle ranch in Caliente, California, serving families throughout California and the Western United States.
Animals have been a central part of my life from a very young age. I grew up around livestock and breeding programs, raising miniature horses, Quarter Horses, multiple breeds of dogs, and even pygmy goats. By the age of nine, I had already begun raising AKC Beagles and Queensland Heelers, gaining early experience in responsible breeding, puppy development, and long-term animal care. These early years laid the foundation for the ethical, preservation-minded breeding program I operate today.
Rafter Cross 7 and RC7 are family-run programs. My husband and I raise our four homeschooled children on our ranch, and our puppies are raised indoors in a dedicated dog room, where they receive daily hands-on care, consistent handling, and structured routines during their early development. This approach supports confident, well-adjusted puppies while allowing us to closely monitor health, behavior, and growth from birth.
As a California AKC breeder, my goal with every breeding is to better the breed—never to mass-produce puppies. Each pairing is intentionally planned with an emphasis on health testing, sound structure, correct breed type, and temperament. I am deeply passionate about preservation breeding and actively participate in the AKC conformation show ring, using the breed standard as the benchmark for my program.
Our dogs are first and foremost members of our family. Our commitment to homeschooling our children is one aspect that sets our family apart. Homeschooling allows us to cultivate a deep appreciation for knowledge and instill a strong work ethic from an early age. I am proud that my kids share my love for animals and actively participate in our breeding endeavors.
Breeding corgis has been a remarkable journey for our family.
In 2022, we took our passion for corgis to new heights by entering the world of AKC dog shows, showcasing the excellence and superiority of our breeding program. We work with a professional handler who represents us in the ring to ensure that our dogs receive the utmost care and attention. However, I am thrilled to step into the ring and showcase our dogs' incredible attributes whenever possible. One of the most rewarding aspects of our breeding endeavor is seeing my oldest son's enthusiasm for showing our dogs in the junior classes. He has developed a deep passion for this art form and revels in the opportunity to display the beauty and grace of our corgis. As a licensed breeder and AKC-inspected professional, we take immense pride in maintaining the highest standards of excellence. Our corgis are a true testament to this commitment, as they embody the ideal characteristics of the breed, both in terms of conformational correctness and overall health.
